8.1. AFC U-23
The AFC U-23 Championship (also called as AFC U-23 Asian Cup) is an international football tournament organized by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and organized every two years. The 2020 AFC U-23 Championship' qualification aimed at international men's under-23 football competition.
The first competition was held in 2013 with the first victory coming to Iran, beating Saudi Arabia 1-0.
There are 16 teams joining in the competition, including Australia, Bahrain, China, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Jordan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Myanmar, North Korea, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Syria, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.
8.2 The Champions over the 3 Leagues:
2014
The first homeownership for the tournament was awarded to Oman. The tournament was set to take place between June 23 and July 7, 2013, but was postponed to be held between 11 and 26 January 2014 due to the East Asia Football Cup 2013.
In the final round, there was a competition between Saudi Arabia and Iraq, Iraq the first time recorded the final result themselves as a titleholder, defeated Saudi Arabic 0-1.
2016
The second competition tournament was held in Qatar from 12 to 30 January 2016 with the participation of 16 teams attended in the tournament. The tournament was renamed from "AFC U-22 Championship" to "AFC U-23 Championship"
The tournament was also a qualifier for the men's soccer tournament at the 2016 Summer Olympics for AFC, with the top 3 teams leading to qualifying to qualify for the 2016 Summer Olympics. Japan won the first championship in history after overcoming the Korean U-23 team with the final result 3–2.
2018
The tournament was taken place during January 9–27, 2018, China acted as the host of the League. Uzbekistan defeated Vietnam in the final to win their first title. Japan was the defending champion but failed to defend the championship after losing to Uzbekistan in the quarter-finals.
The final of the U-23 Asian Football Championship 2018 was the final football match of the U-23 Asia football championship 2018 organized by the Asian Football Federation (AFC) for football teams. 2020
- This Asian U-23 football championship is meant to serve as the AFC qualifier for the next Olympic football tournament. Three best teams out of sixteen of this tournament will officially enter the men's soccer at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Japan on behalf of AFC representatives. As Japan has gained the right to participate as the host team of the 2020 Summer Olympics, if they can get to the semi-finals, the other semi-final teams will qualify to attend even if the semi-finals have not started.
- The tournament will be played in four locations in Bangkok, Buriram, Pathum Thani, and Songkhla provinces.
- The draw for the final round was held on September 26, 2019, at Swissotel Bangkok Ratchada in Bangkok. Sixteen teams were drawn into 4 groups of 4 teams. Teams have been seeded based on their performance at the final of the U-23 Asian Football Championship 2018.
- For the first time the tournament, U-23 2020 will apply the new technology into the competitions, which is video assist arbitration (VAR) technology.
