I. EURO Football Championship

The European Football Championship (also known as UEFA EURO) is an official football tournament held every four years between European football teams organized by the European Football Federation (UEFA).  Henri Delaunay, who was the General Secretary of the French Football Association, was the first person to come up with the idea to set up this tournament. 

In 1960, the first tournament took place in France and the first champion was the Soviet Union. At present, two countries, Germany and Spain, are recorded that have won the championship the most, with three gold trophies.

II. Recent Champions Results

1. Euro 2000


The 2000 European Football Championship or Euro 2000 was the 11th European Football Championship of UEFA, a tournament held every four years.

 For the first time in Euro history, Euro 2000 is a tournament co-organized by Belgium and the Netherlands from June 10 to July 2, 2000. The tournament features 16 national teams. 

With the exception of the host countries Belgium and the Netherlands, the remaining 14 teams must qualify for the finals. France the second time became the champions of this tournament, after a 2-1 victory over Italy in the final, with a golden goal. 

2. Euro 2004


The Euro 2004 final (Euro 2004) was held in Portugal from June 12 until July 4, 2004. This was the 12th European football championship, held every four years. by UEFA. 

The Greek team won the football fans' surprise when they won their first European championship, although it was not appreciated before entering the tournament. The final score was recorded 1-0, Greece over Portugal. 

3. Euro 2008


The European Football Championship 2008 (also known as EURO 2008) was the 13th European football championship organized by the European Football Federation (UEFA). The tournament the first time hosted by Austrian and Swiss stadiums from the 7th to June 29th, 2008. 

This was the second time two co-states hosted European football championships, dated back in 2000, by Belgium and the Netherlands. As a result, Spain team brought victory over Germany 0-1, becoming the second- time champion.

4. Euro 2012


The 2012 European Football Championship (also known as Euro 2012) was the 14th European Championship football tournament, organized by the European Football Federation (UEFA). The final round was held in Poland and Ukraine from June 8 to July 1, 2012. Euro 2012 was also the last final to have 16 teams compete (from Euro 2016 onwards, there will be 24 teams into the final round). The preliminary round consisted of 51 teams participating from August 2010 to November 2011. 

The tournament was held in 8 stadiums, of which 5 were newly built. In addition to the stadiums, the two host countries have invested heavily in improving their infrastructures, such as rail and road, as required by UEFA. 

Euro 2012 is also the second consecutive European championship (after Euro 2008 held in Austria and Switzerland) to see host teams can not pass the group stage.
Again, Spain brought victory to the nation with the score 4–0 over Italy, which meant Spain has awarded the golden title for the third time.

5. Euro 2016


The 2016 European Football Championship (also known as the UEFA Euro 2016) was the 15th European Football Championship, organized by the European Football Federation. The final round was held in France in the summer of 2016, starting from June 10 to July 10, 2016. The third time France hosted this tournament after the 1960s and 1984s.

The Portuguese team won the championship for the first time in their history after defeating the hosts France 1–0 and officially became a representative of UEFA to win the right to participate in the 2017 Confederations Cup in Russia.

6. Euro 2020

Euro 2020, commonly known as UEFA Euro 2020 or simply Euro 2020, is expected to be the 16th European football championship. European international men's football is held every 4 years by UEFA.

The tournament is expected to be held in 12 cities in 12 different European countries in the summer of 2020, starting from June, 26th to July, 26th, including 
1. Azerbaijan
2. Denmark
3. England 
4. Germany
5. Hungary
6. Italy
7. Netherlands
8. Republic of Ireland
9. Romania
10. Russia
11. Scotland
12. Spain. 
Portugal is the current champion of the tournament, with the first and only championship in 2016.
